Following an Irrawaddy dolphin through the Mekong Basin

Kampi Pool, Kratie — Base Station

A pod of Irrawaddy dolphins surfaces at their home pool. Click any dolphin to view monitoring station data — water quality, sediment, and fisheries readings for this stretch of river.

Mekong Transit — The Survey

Fokir swims downstream on a survey run. When the dolphin dives, echolocation activates — the view shifts to sonar and hidden underwater hazards (gillnets, carcasses, noise pollution) are revealed by the pulse.

Phnom Penh Confluence — Hazard Report

At the confluence, Fokir uploads survey data to a monitoring station. Fishing boats receive the hazard report. Watch the dolphin glow golden with karma as the data transfer completes.

Tonle Sap — Homecoming

The pod gathers at Tonle Sap lake beside a Cambodian stilt house. The golden dolphin carries accumulated karma. The right panel shows the family whose livelihood depends on co-fishing with the dolphins.
